About the event

The Phoenix Club is a group of women with substantial life experience who meet monthly to find ways to use our time and skills to build new friendships and enrich the lives of those around us. We explore topics of cultural and practical interest, using our collective knowledge and experience as well as the expertise of invited speakers.
The theme for our November meeting is “How Did Opera Begin?” What cultural and intellectual trends in the late 1500s sparked the idea of expressing an entire drama through music? We will listen to excerpts from the earliest operas and explore aspects of this new form that are present in the operas we enjoy today. Alice Trimmer will lead the presentation. Alice is an editor and violinist. She holds a doctorate in music from The City University of New York. For further information and to RSVP, please contact Alice Trimmer via atrimmer@msn.com
